VINTAGE TREASURE

The Treasure Hunt

Luckily I am not the only person who thinks my vintage china collection is beautiful. On a number of occasions I have been surprised by other peoples interest in my interest. I am always asked where I get the china and how long it has taken me to collect it.

The second question is easier to answer. It has taken many years to pull together my vintage collection.

In terms of where the china has come from, I have found pretties in lots of different places. The charity shops around Bristol are my main go to, but I have also picked up some lovely pieces from car boot sales, Gumtree and Ebay.

Lord knows how big my collection would be if money was no object, but I am a real scrooge so it has to be a bargain. Thinking about it, haggling (respectfully!!) and trying to get the best deal is a big part of the fun for me.

Sounds silly but on some occasions, when deep in haggling mode, I have found myself walking away from something really nice for the sake of paying the extra pound or so. Sometimes I grieve over something as small as a teaspoon or sugar bowl that should have made my collection, but didn’t because I was an idiot and got caught up in the thrill of the haggle and lost…I didn’t have to lose, I should have just paid the extra but I am silly and my pride gets in the way.

I sugarcoat this by telling myself that ‘I can’t own all of the pretty things I come across’ and that there will be something else soon.

That ‘something else soon’ usually doesn’t take long to appear, as I have developed the knack of incorporating hunting for vintage china into many of my everyday tasks. From ducking into the junk and charity shops when I head out for groceries, to combining the dog-walk with a peruse around a car boot sale, searching for china is a habit I can’t seem to shake.

It’s a truly beautiful collection that needs to be enjoyed, so if you would like to add a vintage touch to a special occasion please get in touch.

Available for parties with between 10 and 250 guests, and am more than happy to discuss special occasions that are taking place outside of the Bristol area.
