PINTREST PERFECT VINTAGE PARTY

Blog Post

All things dreamy for a Pinterest Perfect vintage party

Here I sit with my morning coffee thinking of all things vintage for that fanciful wedding, anniversary or garden party affair you may have planned.

So, I’m thinking… all things rustic, romantic, of age and floral. Bringing that secret garden vibe indoors with elegance, flowers, vines and leaves. Maybe birdcages overflowing with gorgeous blooms, mismatched bunting, garlands and lavish paper pompoms, all with a rich sophisticated colour scheme to suit your taste.

Table centrepieces consisting of old silver ENSP tea/coffee pots filled with wild hedgerow flowers or tall and thin cut glass vases with one or two flowers of choice accompanied with the airy, cloudlike baby’s breath (real name gypsophila) stacked high on old books with added candles in jam jars or candelabras for height and decorated with granny-chic pearls draped simply to look elegant and stunning.

You could overlap crochet dollies, lace or paper for a beautiful table runner but if that’s all too fussy a long stretch of hessian to cover or run over the tables gives a real country like feel and goes easy on the budget! A mismatch of wooden tables and chairs looks absolutely charming with a mixture of cushions and fabric ties.

A cake buffet bar on a lovely old shabby chic piece of furniture, this makes for a great dessert display or maybe you could use wooden crates to elevate cupcakes and round homemade carrot cakes and Victoria sponges on stem wear cake stands to add depth.

Sweetie jars overflowing with retro sweets displayed on cut and pressed glass bonbon dishes or mismatched sweetie jars.

Beautifully embroidered tablecloths and linens begged, borrowed and stolen from your mum, mums mum and friend’s mums and their mums.

Use a battered old ladder to display flowers, photographs or even your table plan for your guests to find their seats. Or maybe an old mirror or sashed window with marker pen and calligraphy writing with inspiring and meaningful quotes or your choice.

And for the bit that gets my heart racing … Vintage English floral china, it’s a must surely!!?

It sparks memories and wistful affection of a happy past time. The beauty in the detail of every piece of every trio matching or mismatching, in each salad plate and sugar bowl, from the milk jug to the teapots and tiered cake plates. All different in shape, weight, style and era but with a common theme… elegant, magical, fairy tale like, and truly English with a hint of Alice in Wonderland.

All looking so dreamy and inviting and that’s just the china, there’s the ornate cutlery and tea party accessories to add too, that another blog post in itself.

There’s nothing more traditional and enjoyable as an English tea party and a beautiful collection of fine bone china to kick start a conversation, and let’s face it everybody loves sandwiches, tea and cake!
